Parklander UTV - looks good, goes great in SA

Parklander UTV: Looks Good And Works Even Better

An observant eye, coupled with a good ear, helped close a sale for Brian Burns and Neil Richardson of Casterton Ag at Casterton, Vic. When Robyn Scott and her partner Russell Napier went into their store with coffee in hand, looking at some used farm equipment, little did they know that they would eventually leave the store only after purchasing a new Parklander 500 cc UTV (model HS500UTV-4-S).

The showroom model was a flashy silver colour, with mag wheels, and they both couldn’t help but be attracted by the great look of the machine. Already used to driving Quads, they took little convincing to go for the UTV.

After delivery a few days later, they had some teething problems which were quickly fixed by the team at Casterton Ag. Robyn notes that the guys at the dealership were nearly an hour’s drive away, but were only too happy to call out and help out with their problem.

Showroom model now has windscreen

As displayed, the UTV did not have a windscreen (now a standard feature) and the gas struts for the tilt tray were missing. These were installed a short time later by the dealer.

Very easy to drive, the UTV is also very comfortable with bucket seats and lots of leg room. With fully-independent suspension, this utility unit covers the hilly contour of their property easily, without the bone-shaking bumps.

No slouch, the machine’s 22.8 hp 4-stroke EFI engine is powerful enough to do a more than respectable top speed of 70 kmph. At this speed, the retractable safety arm on the passenger side comes in handy.

When the teenaged grandchildren pop over from the city to visit, they lend a hand with the work at the property. They enjoy helping out as they get to drive the UTV. And, the doors are a great standard safety feature to have, for the younger ones.

Hard little worker

The couple own two properties. The UTV is used in their Mount Gambier farm, where they raise sheep and Alpacas. The rear tray holds three bales of hay and once loaded, the animals just follow the UTV to where they will be fed. The rear tray tips easily, doing away with the need for lifting to offload.

The machine is used seven days a week for a minimum of six hours and “it hasn’t missed a beat in the last four months”, Robyn says.

She also notes that price is a “pleasant surprise as the UTV costs less than what she paid for her quads, which she uses in the other property.” The 3500 lb winch also is a good standard feature, according to her, though luckily she says so far hasn’t been needed because it has been very dry.

Built with easy maintenance at heart

Russell, a tinkerer by nature, likes the UTV’s easy access to the engine and the radiator, where you only have to unclip a lock. This compares to competitors’ models that require special tools to do this.

It’s good to note that the UTV hasn’t required any real maintenance since the early teething problems, he likes this accessibility.

According to Robyn, the UTV “is a great farm tool and she couldn’t be happier with it.”

As to recommending the Parklander UTV to others, she says, “No problem, whatsoever. And, getting this from the great guys at Casterton Ag is an added bonus because of their great service.”
